Embracing Change!

"You are the same... Your years will have no end."

Psalm 102:27 NKJV

God never changes! In a world that is ever-changing, it is a great comfort to know God remains "the same yesterday, today and forever." Hebrews 13:8. One cynic remarked nothing is permanent -- except change. We live in a world of constant change! Everything from ladies' shoes to legislation, automobiles to art, furniture to finances... styles, customs and conditions change overnight. World events seem to tumble over each other with barely enough time to happen.

In such a breath-taking age, people look all around for a point of permanence! Some rely upon financial investments, but money only serves to purchase more change. Others seek to endure through fame, honors, and position, but soon the famous are forgotten. Some rely on friends, but too many friends, like shadows, follow only in sunny weather. Thousands seek to escape life's boredom through modern fads and "isms." Someone has said, "The religion of China is Confucian: the religion of America is confusion."

Jesus Christ the same! What marvelous satisfaction we can take in these four words! He is One who never fails the heart that leans on Him for rest. Health may fail -- but His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Adversity may crash upon us -- but He draws closer than a brother. Friends may desert us, so that we end up saying with Paul, "No man stood with me.""Notwithstanding, the Lord stood with me." In death He assures us, "I am the resurrection and the life." I take great comfort in knowing God is referred to in Isaiah 9:6 as "the everlasting Father." Nevertheless, we can also say with him in the next verse,

It is so easy to become consumed with temporal things and lose sight of eternal matters! After all, we require food, shelter, and a certain amount of materials and goods to survive. Most of us spend a good deal of our lives working to obtain things to sustain ourselves. We also spend a lot of time and energy working for more than we may actually need. In our effort to pursue things, we lose sight of the eternal Creator. While we were created in His image to enjoy our time on earth, He also gave us eternal life through His Son. In everything, He remains focused on us. Let us change our focus on Him -- for a change!

WISDOM WORD: "Choose to think on the eternal consequences of your actions and goals more than on the temporal gains and things of this world."

TODAY'S PRAYER: "Father remind me to keep my mind on You, as I am on Your mind, In Jesus' Name, Amen!"
